Greenville Employment Numbers 4th Best In SC

When you view a chart of the current Greenville Employment Statistics(xls) and compare them year over year, you still don’t get a true feeling of how desperate times have gotten for so many.Greenville, SC unemployment rates through Oct. '08

Of 23 industry sectors, this chart shows that employment rates for 15 of them have actually risen, 2 remained the same, but only 6 have fallen. Of course, that’s no comfort to those who’ve lost jobs in those 6 sectors, but it’s a more realistic look at Greenville’s jobs than what you may’ve heard otherwise.

As a matter of fact, of SC’s 46 counties, Greenville County has lower unemployment rates than 42 others, with the exception of:

  1. Charleston,
  2. Beaufort, and
  3. Lexington

One image that does show a sign of the times though is this trendline for ‘SC jobs‘ searches over the last few years - one that has been going up - and that’s what many people are waiting for now: a job.
