Shannon Theobald and Alison Queen were selected to attend the Closing Bell Ceremony at NASDAQ tomorrow based on their performance in the DemandTec Retail Challenge. As local winners of the competition, both received a $1,000 scholarship and have been invited to NYC for the ceremony.
Allison is actually too busy with school right now to go, but Shannon and another girl – Emalie – will compete as a team against 6-8 other teams who’ve won their local contests from around the country for a chance at an additional $10,000 scholarship in the Grand Finals.
S.C. Student Qualifies for National Braille Challenge Finals
Brianna Murray, a 10th grade violin major at The Charleston School of the Arts, has qualified for the National Braille Challenge Finals in Los Angeles, California.
She is the only student in South Carolina to ever make it to the Braille Finals and this is her third time qualifying. This year, Brianna qualified through South Carolina’s First Annual Regional Braille Challenge, held in Columbia in February, at the South Carolina State Library.
This is tremendous honor for Brianna, Charleston County Schools and South Carolina. She will be representing the Charleston County School District and South Carolina in a national arena. Brianna is an outstanding student and because of Brianna’s participation in the Braille Challenge, the South Carolina Regional Braille Challenge was organized.
Potential Youth Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works with underprivileged youth to instill character and education through sports, has opened in Greenville on the SCTAC campus.
Formally established in 2002, The Potential Youth Foundation is dedicated to the support of disadvantaged youth through academic, character and athletic programs.
The foundation – free for those who qualify as disadvantaged youth and available at low cost for those who don’t – currently provides an after school program for children in grades 4-12, as well as an eight-week summer program.
